Economic implications

The machines developed will only come pre programmed as able to produce a basic range of goods and services.

This basic range will be sufficient to support a very comfortable lifestyle by today's standards, and people will always want to create and consume more than this basic range.

Economic activity will continue, and it's nature will evolve rapidly.

It is likely that levels of taxation of around 25% will be required on earth to maintain social stability.

Some things are always going to be in scarce supply, and economics will balance supply and demand.

It should be noted that while the machines delivered to every individual will come with only a basic programme set, new programmes can be developed to deliver any chosen outcome.
This leaves open the possibility of very large scale engineering projects; both as public works and for scientific exploration.
